House designed for people who live in a city like Bangkok should be a recovery space from every day hardly life. This is our foundation belief for house design. The owner brief to design a family house for expanded 3 generation residency on the land located between a heavy traffic alley on the front side and back side open to the manmade lake. They request garden space together with privacy from the jumble environment surrounding them. Also, add on with special requirements from Feng-Shui master to fix the direction of some function and a water feature at front of the entrance door.
The layout set the house plan striped along with the land plot from the frontside then turn square elbow to facing the lakeside, made the house to be L-shape and also create a semi-enclosed open space connected to the entrance from the road. This verdant approach space and transition floor level create a changing of scenery to notice dwellers that they already back home. The Feng-Shui requested water feature was designed as a rectangular shape overflow reflective pond. It makes white noise continuously that invent relaxing environment.
The house design is inspired by the traditional Thai house, “Tai-Toon” which is the free flow space on the ground level that normally uses during the daytime. The living and dining area are placed openable both two sides to take the garden view and the lake from the backyard. Allowing the wind to circulate across the house’s orientation. The outdoor terrace was set next to the dining area and continue to the home theatre room.
The upper floor was planned master bedroom and 1 bedroom fully face to the lakeside view. Another bedroom is placed on the front side, fencing by adjustable aluminum vertical louver panels. They are connected by a family living space that facing to garden view.
The traditional concept and Feng-Shui belief were retaken and transformed into a modern design with the dark grey horizontal framed box shape. Made upper floor look heavy massive box float over transparent ground floor. That exposed interior space is fully finished with teak wood as almost material to create the warm and homey inhabit atmosphere.
